The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team finished 2025 on 47 callouts for the year compared to 63 in 2024. The time the team spent on callouts decreased to 163 hours compared to 235 hours in 2024.
Callouts included:
- 22 callouts to deal with casualties on behalf of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service
- 11 high-risk missing person searches working with West Yorkshire Police
- 9 callouts to assist other teams – these being Woodhead, Calder Valley, Oldham, and Bolton Mountain Rescue teams.
Other 2025 statistics:
We carried out 163 training exercises through the year. Some of these were with trainees only, some with the full team, and some were exercises for specialist groups such as the water team, rope rescue team, or the search managers. The total time spent training in 2025 was 973 hours.
In addition to the above we were involved with 176 events. Some of these were team management meetings, others included fundraising activities and providing talks and input to other groups. These added up to 502 hours.
From the above, the level of commitment given by team members is clear. If a member attended absolutely everything in 2025 this would have taken 1693 hours – over 70 full days of volunteering. Of course, members only attend a proportion of this depending on their availability. Our most active member gave 361 voluntary hours in 2025 – still a large commitment.
