The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team finished 2024 on 63 callouts for the year compared to 56 in 2023, however this only tells part of the story. High risk misper searches have been increasing year on year, with 15 in 2022, 17 in 2023, and 23 in 2024.
The result of the above is that time the team spent on callouts increased to 235 hours in 2024, which is a huge 55% jump from the 151 hours in 2023.
Other 2024 highlights:
- We were called to 14 medical and 12 trauma incidents where we were tasked by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to casualties in difficult to access locations.
- 11 full team callouts were in collaboration with our neighbouring Calder Valley team, 7 were with the Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, and 2 were with the Woodhead team. This highlights the strong relationships we have with these organisations. Altogether there were 20 joint full team callouts, compared to 16 in 2023.
- In terms of total person-hours spent on callouts, this was 2,653 hours in 2024 compared to 2,416 hours in 2023.
The map on this page shows where each of our callouts occurred in 2024. Single markers show where one callout occurred in an area while the numbers in blue circles indicate a number of callouts happening fairly close together.
